Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe, warm, loving environment free of bias for all children regardless of age, sex, religion, orientation, ability or nationality. It is our duty to celebrate childhood as a magical time filled with wonder and curiosity to create a lifetime of love for learning. It is our goal to support the growth of children to not only create relationships with others, but to also create relationships with nature and all life found within.
Our Philosophy
Children deserve to have the utmost care in an environment created with their success and acceptance in mind. We believe all children bring special gifts to our community, and if given the chance to grow and be understood will become confident and competent members of society. Understanding the child and meeting them at their level builds trust and teaches both kindness and empathy, which is essential for fostering acceptance and independence. We celebrate the whole child and encourage our children to be the unique beings they are. Our curriculum is child-led and emergent, following the interests of the student to create memorable learning.
Our Values
-
Social-emotional growth: During the early years of a child's life it is important to support the child as they navigate their feelings, as well as working with and understanding the feelings of others.
-
Child-led learning: When children are allowed to investigate what interests them, a love of learning is fostered that continues for life.
-
Emergent curriculum: The children create our curriculum. Ideas are exchanged, theories are presented, and children have a say in what they learn about.
-
Creativity: Children are free to express themselves through various materials. Open-ended materials allow the child to speak in many different languages; "Every child is an artist" -- Pablo Picasso.
-
Nature: Nature is important and very healing for children. We enjoy gardening, where we learn about the food we eat while taking care of the plants. We play outside, rain or shine!
-
Whole Child: We value the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of each child. We understand that learning not only takes place in school, and that children bring experiences from home with them each day. We value the connection between home and school, and work together with families for what is best for their child.
-
Safety & Health: A top priority is to make sure the children at Willow Nursery School are safe and healthy.
-
Family: Family is an important part of a child's life. We work with families in an open, honest and respectful, non-judgmental way. Parents are their child's expert, and we provide our expertise of child development to come together and support families on this journey through early childhood. We are a team!
